Siriu Dam, Buzau county


Siriu Dam is located on Buzau river, in Siriu village from Buzau county, between
Siriu mountain and Podu Calului (Horse's Bridge) mountain.
Following construction of the dam, the national road DN10 changed route, bypassing Lake Siriu its contour line, for this purpose was built more viaducts. Viaduct Giurca has a length of 276 m and 46 m high and viaduct Stanca (Rock) Teharau crosses the rock with the same name. 
The dam was approved in January 1972 and was completed in December 1994. The purpose of his building was on the one hand, the supply with fresh and industrial water and irrigation downstream localities of 50,000 ha of agricultural land, and on the other hand, the production of electricity by building hydroelectric Nehoiasu with an installed capacity of 42 MW installed with a flow of 32 m³ / s and generating an average output power of 144 GWh per year. The dam is used also for flood protection, the accumulation of Siriu being provided with a flood mitigation installment of 30 million m³ to 980 m³ / s.
